The Piranhas go Dry for July PDF Print E-mail

The Claremont Women’s Football Club, lead by President Aimee Barber, Head Coach Tiffany Harken and Division 2 Coach Brie Harken have put down their beer glasses to raise money for Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital’s Oncology ward via DryJuly.com.

“I have lost several members of my family to cancer, and my sister in law is currently in treatment at Charlies. If going without a drink for a month is what it takes to help make the oncology ward a nicer place for patients then that’s what I’ll do. It’s a really small price to pay for such a great gift.” said Club President, Aimee Barber.

Brietta Harken, who has also lost family to cancer, said “I know just how awful it can be to go through treatment for cancer. Going dry this July is going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done, but its worth it to know that the money we raise will help make the environment at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital a little bit better for those in treatment.”

Aimee Barber went on to say “We often fundraise for the Club through raffles and events, but have never taken on the task of raising money for another organization. I think it’s really important to give back to the Community and a great way to teach our younger members about civic duty in a real grass roots way.”

The Piranhas will be collecting money online via their Dry July page at http://www.dryjuly.com/profiles/claremontwomensfootballclub and through cash donations at their upcoming home games, which are played at Claremont Oval on Davies Road in Claremont, between 12pm and 4pm on July 12 and 26.

Together, the Piranhas are hoping to become one of Dry July’s top 10 fundraising groups in WA and are well on their way with a current placing of 5th with $1223.73 raised for the oncology ward at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital through their efforts after just 11 days.
